outreach: promoción
Kenny mentioned that he uses difusión de información; información al público; educación/educar al público
but those all seem fairly wordy. It's true, promocion sounds like you're selling something, but in a way you are usually - an event, a service, etc.. Thoughts? Other options?

I usually say: alcanze
i go for educación comunitaria.
oooh! I like it!
Educacion comunitaria is community education. I go for "diseminacion de informacion" or "acercamiento al publico".
How about "proyección social"? Because I have never known how to translate that term, I have used social outreach.
I use labores de difusión comunitaria
Promoción, conscientización. Please don't use alcance. Outreach is not just distributing information, it is also reaching out for information from the community
nice clarification David! thanks : )
sorry for the delayed response, had to wade through spam comments
I avoid to use the word "alcance" for outreach but I have seen that people use it a lot. It sounds google. I propose convocatoria a la comunidad o un llamado a la comunidad a participar en when it refers to outreach.
We know that outreach is about bringing/getting information and also services to/from people. "Alcance" does not mean that. "Educación comunitaria" does not convey the whole meaning because services are left out. "Proyección social" seems better. In my humble opinion, in Spanish only a phrase, like "intercambio de información y servicios con la comunidad" is the closest we can get to the meaning of the English word.
Sara, you are correct about avoiding "promoción" in this context. It is better to use "divulgación" to mean bringing information to the public.
I use promoción o difusión comunitaria
I have used all of the above depending on the purpose. I have also tested "proveedor para servicios comunitario" "Proveedor communitario"
I also have a question; how do we add new words to the Spanish dictionary? there are a lot of words that don't exists in Spanish and other languages and there is a need as time has evolved.
